ABB ACSM1 Motion Control Drive

abb-servo-driveThe ABB ACSM1 motion control drive is designed to control synchronous or induction motors for the most demanding machinery positioning needs. This compact system offers flexible programming and is available in two variants. Its wide power range, high level of connectivity and thoughtful design provide an optimized solution for motion control in unpredictable environments.

The “AS” version is a speed and torque controller, and receives its analog speed or torque reference from a traditional motion controller. The “AM” version is fully capable of camming and electronic gearing. It is a completely programmable, positioning drive, offering a great variety of feedback options to complement its more advanced capabilities. Many fieldbus options are available, including CANopen, DeviceNet, Modbus RTU, Modbus/TCP, ProfibusDP, Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, Sercos II, and Delta Tau’s MACRO. This drive can handle power ratings from 0.75 to 355 kW (1 to 450 hp) and is equipped with a memory unit to facilitate drive management. Safe Torque Off (STO) is standard. The ACSM1 offers an optimum solution for both single and multi-axis motion control projects.

ACSM1 uses direct torque control, in either open or closed loop scenario, for flexible control of both synchronous and asynchronous motors. It has a regenerative power supply for systems that face high braking power frequently during duty cycles. It is well suited to applications such as conveyor control, multi-axis motion control and robotic positioning, as well as sophisticated, complex numerical control for robotics and machining centers. This drive can work as the single motion control drive, or integrate seamlessly into a multidrive system, communicating with its peers through its many connections. ABB specifies and IP20 enclosure for cabinet installation, and designed in a variety of cooling choices, including air, cold-plate and push-through options.

The ACSM1 drive is a great replacement for Baldor H2 Vector drives or H2 Servo drives. It can also replace Baldor VS1VG, Series 18H, and Series 23 drives.
